Attack on Titan was a manga that began with such challenging and provocative writing.
Attack on Titan is a dark fantasy set in a world isolated behind a wall where humanity fights an endless war against Titans. The story has a unique worldview, distinct characters and employs impressive storytelling to win the enthusiastic support of its readers.
In 2011, Attack on Titan was ranked No.1 in both “Kono Manga ga Sugoi! 2011” (for men) and “Recommended Comics 2011 by National Booksellers”, and also received the “Kodansha Manga Award” in the shonen (boys) category at the 35th award ceremony in 2011.
After a run of about 11 years, the Attack on Titan series came to an end in the May 2021 issue of Bessatsu Shōnen Magazine. When the series concluded, it also became a hot topic because the final issue was reprinted, a rare event for a magazine.
There are 34 volumes in the main Attack on Titan comic series. The series has sold over 140 million copies in total worldwide as of 2024.
The Attack on Titan animated TV series first aired in 2013, and a live-action movie (split into two parts) was produced in 2015. The series has also been developed into a wide range of media such as for the stage and games.
Season 1 to 3 of the animated TV series was produced by WIT STUDIO and the 4th and final season was produced by MAPPA, to complete the series with a total of 94 episodes in autumn 2023. The animation and image direction created by Attack on Titan’s leading Japanese animators received high praise from all its fans throughout the world.
In 2014, the anime received the Digital Contents of The Year ’13 The AMD Grand Prize (19th AMD Awards), then went on to win the Global TV Drama Award 2021 Most In-Demand TV Series in the world in 2022. In 2024, it was awarded with several prizes including the Astra TV Awards 2023 Best Streaming Animated Series or TV Movie.
